Unbound App Reviews

SLOW

Wow, what a great app this would be if it weren’t SO. SLOW. It has to pause CONSTANTLY to “think.” I can only scroll a few rows at a time before it pauses and I get the spinning color wheel. Seems like Incredibly False advertising to call it “Incredibly Fast.” Otherwise, it would be exactly what I’ve been looking for in a photo organization app. Even the new Photos app bums me out because it won’t automatically sort photos on my hard drive like this app does. Just not worth $10 for something so slow.

Good program but slow

Needs better speed on scrolling and retireving photos from files. Faster spped would make this a 5 tar program

long time coming….

I am so glad I sort of tripped over this app. A simple well designed and well functioning picture viewer. Here is why I love this app: it keeps my file structure unchanged and does not duplicate or copy into a separate library; when I make changes to my files (e.g. renaming of files or folders, or picture editing with a different app.) unbound automatically reflects that; no speed issues from my perspective...plenty fast; decent slideshow for the big screen; simple and lightweight, no nonsense features for a viewer; A few wishes for future improvements would be a simple picture and movie editor that would make changes to the original file without creating another “file” in a separate library. Unbound is what I hoped the new photos app to be like plus editing of course…..simple and easy. I highly recommend this viewer.

Great app but slow...

The app is exactly what I needed - a simple photo browser that allows me to create albums that are folder based within the finder. I like the organization and execution of the app. However the description of the app says “incredibly fast..” but in actual use I see the beach ball most of the time using the app. So untill it really is incredibly fast I can’t give it any more than 3 stars.

Is this app still being supported? I get duplicate folders on rescan.

Is this app still being supported? The link to support just leads to the homepage of the website, and there is no specific support link. Just an “info@“ contact link. I did not get any response to my first support query. Have sent another. Heads up, Apple! So my issue is; The first time I rescanned my photo folder, Unbound created duplicates of every subfolder. The duplicates have no top image and no contents. They don’t go away on rescan. Feeling frustrated.

Useless. $10.00 Down the Drain

This app fails on all accounts. The Import function can not find a single photo in my iPhoto album, nor can I drag and drop from iPhoto into Unbound.

NO Image number on images anywhere

There are no images numbers on the images anywhere within the showing program. Not scaleable. Tried to “request a feature” in Help and the program did nothing. Sad. Can I get my money back?

Unbound for Mac

Unbound is the best photo manager for my purposes as it does not modify the structure of my folders and does not rely on a database. This application performs very well on Mavericks (OS X 10.9) but unfortunately it’s completely unusable on Yosemite due to unacceptably poor performance. I’ve contacted the developers of this application regarding this issue on multiple occasions and they’ve mentioned that they have received some complaints about the performance issues. I encourage users of this wonderful application to contact Pixite to remind them about the performance issues of Unbound for Mac on OS X 10.10. This application has not been updated since last year but hopefully the next software update will address the problems that many have been experiencing.

Not what I’d hoped

Unbound is underwhelming. It looks good but doesn’t do much of anything to advance my photo organization. Not worth the price. And no response from the developer when I asked for clarification about what I expected from the app, based on their description. Maybe I’m missing something, but Undbound seems to be missing a lot.

pretty much useless

Look: Unbound is exactly what it claims to be—a fast, simple photo file management too—but that is it. Not an inch, not a millimeter more! You’re little better off than you would be if you created your own folders for your albums (eg Snake River 2014, Aunt Sara’s wedding, etc) and copied your photos to these. Better still you can do this in Dropbox or the equivalent. Unbound will do this for you, but you can’t order the photos except by date or file name, you can’t edit them (not even rotate an image), you can’t reduce the size and resolution (say for web browsing or sharing via text)…I could go on ad infinitum. Save your self $10 and just use the Finder and Preview or pay for a “grownup” photo management tool.

Pretty Disappointing

It’s not awful, but I downloaded because a review said it was fast. It’s definitely not that. It also crashed during the first import and again a few minutes later. That there’s a dialog asking whether I want to reset it after a crash tells me this is not so unexpected. Zooming pics with a double click always seems to beachball for a few seconds. I don’t want a toolbar hovering over my photos. I want to see my photos. All of those buttons could fit in the window toolbar when in photo view. Selection is weird. Cmd or shift click works fine for multiple selection in every other app. Why not use that? The selection toolbar is annoying popping up constantly. Again, it could fit in the window titlebar in grid view. Enjoy my $10. I’ll miss you.

The best and ONLY solution for some specific problems

I just spent an entire day of my weekend trying to organize my photo collection. I’ve accumulated digital photos for half my life, so we’re talking 200gb +. I’ve tried lightroom, and I loved Picasa. Picasa is dead now, hence my wasted weekend. Anyway: This app is VERY simple, so if that’s not quite what you’re looking for.. you should probably move on. It excels at recognizing your file structure and turning directories into albums. It’s easy to search by album NAME, and it’s easy to navigate around. These sound like simple features, but the $180 Adobe LightRoom solution didn’t get these things done for me. For example, most apps show all your photo folders sorted alphabetically…that’s absolutely useless. I can’t explain every nuanced difference between album sorting, etc… all I can say is for $9.99 I’ll probably be using this app for life. Highly recommend!
